Target Information

Netrins are responsible for directing the guidance of CNS commissural axons and peripheral motor axons. When associated with either DCC or certain UNC5 receptors, netrins can cause axon attraction or repulsion, respectively. Specifically, binding to UNC5C may result in UNC5C dissociating from polymerized TUBB3 in microtubules, leading to enhanced microtubule dynamics and axon repulsion. In mice, Netrin-1 serves a variety of roles, including neural development, immune regulation, angiogenesis, tissue repair, and disease protection. During spinal cord development, Netrin-1 guides sensory neuron projections to extend to the dorsal side of the spinal cord. Mice lacking Netrin-1 exhibit abnormal axonal projections and may even experience neuronal loss.
