Target Information

Interleukin 9 is a versatile cytokine primarily secreted by T-helper 2 lymphocytes, as well as mast cells and NKT cells, playing a significant role in the immune response against parasites. It influences intestinal epithelial permeability and adaptive immunity. Furthermore, IL-9 promotes the differentiation of certain T-cell subsets, such as IL-17 producing helper T-cells (TH17), and also encourages the proliferation and differentiation of mast cells. IL-9 is believed to have a protective role in the nervous system. Research has shown that IL-9 can reduce neurotoxicity and enhance clinical symptoms in mice with experimental autoimmune encephalitis (EAE).
