Target Information

Meprin A Alpha (Meprin Aα) is a membrane-bound metalloproteinase primarily expressed in the kidneys, intestines, and other tissues in mice. It consists of α and β subunits and serves various biological functions, including regulating inflammatory responses, promoting tissue repair, and contributing to disease progression and development. In an experimental colitis model, mice lacking Meprin Aα (Meprin Aα knockout mice) exhibited more severe inflammatory responses, highlighting its anti-inflammatory properties. Moreover, Meprin Aα can degrade pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-6, thereby diminishing their biological activity, underscoring its role in inflammation regulation. Meprin Aα is also crucial for skin repair and fibrosis, as studies have shown it cleaves type I collagen precursors into mature collagen molecules, supporting the skin's structural integrity.
