Pancreatic prohormone precursor, also known as proinsulin, is a fascinating protein synthesized in the beta cells of the Pancreatic Islets-specialized regions within the pancreas. Proinsulin serves as the prohormone precursor to insulin. Bovine Pancreatic Prohormone is encoded by the PPY gene in cattle. It is a 36-amino acid peptide, which may function as an important feedback inhibitor of pancreatic secretion after a meal.
