Target Information

Dermatopontin appears to facilitate cell adhesion by binding to cell surface integrins, potentially acting as a communication bridge between dermal fibroblasts and their extracellular matrix environment. It enhances the activity of TGFB1, inhibits cell proliferation, accelerates collagen fibril formation, and stabilizes collagen fibrils against dissociation at low temperatures. In mice, dermatopontin plays diverse roles in testicular function, fibrosis, tissue repair, disease development, and hematopoiesis. Research has shown that overexpression of dermatopontin in Sertoli cells of the testis can cause testicular tissue damage in mice, including disruption of the blood-testis barrier (BTB). This is evidenced by a significant reduction in the expression levels of key BTB components, such as claudin-11 and ZO-1, highlighting the critical role of dermatopontin in maintaining testicular integrity.
