Target Information

Alpha-1 microglobulin (α1m) is a low molecular weight glycoprotein commonly found in the plasma, urine, cerebrospinal fluid, and amniotic fluid of mammals. It is considered an important marker of renal tubular function. Additionally, Alpha-1 microglobulin exhibits antioxidant properties by binding to heme and promoting its degradation, thus preventing the formation of free radicals and oxidative stress. This antioxidant capability potentially aids in protecting cells from oxidative damage. Furthermore, Alpha-1 microglobulin is closely associated with the immune system, as it can form a complex with immunoglobulin A (IgA) and participate in immune responses.
