Target Information
Myosins are actin-based motor proteins with ATPase activity that are essential for muscle contraction. They form regular bipolar thick filaments that, along with actin thin filaments, create the fundamental contractile unit of skeletal and cardiac muscle. Myosin-7 in mice plays a diverse array of roles, including cell adhesion, ciliary motility, and cardiac and muscle function. Research has shown that Myosin-7 acts as a cardiac β-myosin heavy chain involved in the remodeling of ventricular contractile function and myocardial hypertrophy. In a post-myocardial infarction model, the expression level of Myosin-7 is significantly increased, suggesting its role in cardiac remodeling and cardiomyocyte differentiation. Furthermore, mutations in Myosin-7 are linked to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), affecting the protein's structure and function and leading to abnormalities in cardiomyocytes.
