Target Information

Kluyveromyces lactis is a yeast from the Kluyveromyces genus, widely utilized in genetic research and industrial applications. Formerly known as Saccharomyces lactis, this yeast is capable of assimilating lactose and converting it into lactic acid. Yeasts and fungi are ideal organisms for comparative genomic studies in eukaryotes due to their small, compact genomes and the inclusion of various species, such as Neurospora crassa, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Schizosaccharomyces pombe, which have been extensively used in genetic research and continue to play a significant role in such studies.
