Priestia megaterium, formerly known as Bacillus megaterium prior to 2020, is a rod-shaped, Gram-positive, primarily aerobic, spore-forming bacterium found in various diverse habitats. This bacterium has been systematically developed for biotechnological applications, including the production of small molecules such as vitamin B12, polymers like polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), the in vivo and in vitro synthesis of multiple proteins, and whole-cell applications.
