Target Information

Irisin is a regulatory protein produced by muscle cells. Its synthesis is a time-consuming process, but its half-life in blood plasma can be counted in hours. Irisin promotes the conversion of white adipose tissue (WAT) to brown adipose tissue (BAT). BAT is metabolically active and burns energy, potentially aiding in weight management. In racehorses, training has been shown to decrease the resting plasma irisin concentration.
