Target Information
Danofloxacin is a synthetic fluoroquinolone antimicrobial agent developed specifically for veterinary use. It is primarily employed to treat respiratory diseases in cattle, swine, and chickens, such as bovine respiratory disease (BRD) caused by Mannheimia haemolytica and Pasteurella multocida. Like other fluoroquinolones, it acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase. It is a significant food safety concern because residues in edible tissues (meat and offal) can promote the development of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria that may affect human health. Consequently, regulatory agencies have established strict Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) and mandatory withdrawal periods for its use in food-producing animals.
