Target Information
Canine Indoxyl Sulfate is a protein-bound uremic toxin produced from the hepatic metabolism of indole, which is generated by tryptophan-degrading bacteria in the dog's gastrointestinal tract. In canine medicine, IS is a key biomarker for renal dysfunction; its accumulation correlates with the progression of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) decline. It acts via the Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor (AhR) to induce oxidative stress and myofibroblast transformation, making it a target for studying renal fibrosis and uremic syndrome in companion animals.
