Target Information

The NS3 protease is a chymotrypsin-like serine protease essential for the Zika virus life cycle. It consists of an N-terminal protease domain (NS3pro) and a C-terminal helicase domain. For full enzymatic activity, NS3pro requires the NS2B cofactor to wrap around it and complete the catalytic active site. This complex performs vital proteolytic cleavages of the viral polyprotein at specific junctions, making it a premier target for small-molecule antiviral drugs designed to block viral maturation and replication.
