Target Information
Benzophenone is a widely used photoinitiator in ultraviolet (UV)-curable printing inks and lacquers applied to food packaging materials, and it also serves as a UV blocker to protect products from light degradation. It is related to animal-derived food safety primarily through chemical migration; it can leach from printed cartonboard, plastic wraps, or containers directly into high-fat animal products like milk, cheese, eggs, and butter. Because benzophenone is classified as a potential carcinogen and an endocrine-disrupting chemical (EDC) that can mimic or interfere with natural hormones, its specific migration limits are strictly regulated to prevent contamination of the food chain.
