Target Information
Mouse Mannose-Binding Protein A (Mbl1) is a pattern recognition receptor that plays a crucial role in the innate immune response by recognizing and binding to carbohydrate structures on the surface of pathogens. Mbl1 is a component of the lectin pathway of the complement system, which helps in the opsonization and clearance of pathogens. It is highly expressed in the liver and secreted into the bloodstream, where it binds to mannose and other sugar residues on bacterial surfaces, leading to the activation of the complement cascade and the formation of the membrane attack complex (MAC). In mouse models, Mbl1 deficiency results in increased susceptibility to infections, particularly those caused by encapsulated bacteria. Additionally, Mbl1 has been implicated in the regulation of inflammation and the resolution of immune responses.
