Target Information
Mouse Lysyl Oxidase Homolog 1 (Loxl1) is a member of the lysyl oxidase family of copper-dependent amine oxidases. It catalyzes the oxidative deamination of lysine residues in collagen and elastin, promoting the formation of covalent cross-links that stabilize the extracellular matrix (ECM). Loxl1 is highly expressed in tissues such as the eye, lung, and cardiovascular system, where it plays a crucial role in maintaining ECM integrity and tissue elasticity. In mouse models, Loxl1 deficiency leads to severe ocular abnormalities, including glaucoma and retinal detachment, due to impaired ECM stabilization.
