Target Information
Mouse High Mobility Group Box 1 (Hmgb1) is a highly conserved nuclear protein involved in key nuclear processes such as DNA repair, replication, and gene regulation. It is widely expressed in mammalian cells and tissues and plays critical roles in both intracellular and extracellular environments. In the nucleus, Hmgb1 interacts with DNA and histones to maintain chromatin structure and regulate transcription. In the cytoplasm, it promotes autophagy and cell survival. When released extracellularly, Hmgb1 acts as a damage-associated molecular pattern (DAMP) molecule, triggering inflammatory responses by interacting with receptors such as Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE). Additionally, Hmgb1 plays a role in tissue repair and regeneration, highlighting its dual function in inflammation and tissue healing. Dysregulation of Hmgb1 has been implicated in various diseases, including inflammatory and autoimmune disorders, as well as cancer.
