Target Information
Mouse Breast Cancer Type 2 Susceptibility Protein Homolog (Brca2) is a key protein involved in DNA repair and maintaining genomic stability. It plays a crucial role in homologous recombination (HR) repair, which is essential for repairing double-strand DNA breaks. Brca2 facilitates the loading of the RAD51 recombinase onto single-stranded DNA, promoting the formation of RAD51 filaments that are necessary for HR. In mouse models, Brca2 is highly expressed in tissues with high rates of cell division, such as the testes and bone marrow, where it helps prevent genomic instability and tumorigenesis. Abnormal expression or mutations in Brca2 have been implicated in various cancers, including breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers. Additionally, Brca2 has been shown to interact with other proteins involved in DNA repair and cell cycle regulation, highlighting its importance in maintaining cellular integrity and preventing cancer.
