Target Information
In mice, Bone Morphogenetic Protein 7 (Bmp7) is a key member of the TGF-β superfamily, playing critical roles in skeletal and cartilage development, kidney function, and tissue repair. Bmp7 promotes chondrocyte differentiation and bone formation, making it essential for skeletal development. It also supports kidney development and repair, with deficiency leading to renal dysfunction. Additionally, Bmp7 is used therapeutically to enhance fracture healing and cartilage repair. Its anti-fibrotic effects in organs like the liver show promise for treating fibrotic diseases. While Bmp7 can inhibit some cancer cell growth, its role in oncology remains complex. Overall, Bmp7 is a multifunctional protein with broad applications in research and therapy.
