Target Information
Bovine galectin 9 (GAL9) is a member of the galectin family, which are characterized by their affinity for β-galactosides. Galectins are involved in various cellular processes, including cell adhesion, cell signaling, apoptosis, cell differentiation, immunity, and migration through their interaction with glycoconjugates. In cattle, GAL9 plays a significant role in immune regulation and has been shown to modulate the development and contraction of an adaptive immune response, including T cell activation and apoptosis. It is also implicated in the resolution of inflammation and has anti-inflammatory roles in nearly every aspect of adaptive immune responses . Furthermore, GAL9 has been identified as a ligand for T cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain-3 (Tim-3), which is expressed on dysfunctional T cells during viral infections
. Elevated levels of circulating GAL9 have been reported in humans infected with various viruses, bacteria, and parasites.
