Target Information
Bovine fatty acid-binding protein, heart (FABP3), also known as heart-type fatty acid-binding protein (H-FABP), is a small cytosolic protein that plays a crucial role in the transport and metabolism of fatty acids within cardiomyocytes. It is highly expressed in cardiac tissue and is involved in shuttling long-chain fatty acids to the mitochondria for β-oxidation, which is essential for energy production in the heart. In cattle, H-FABP is not only important for cardiac function and energy metabolism but also serves as a biomarker for myocardial injury. Its rapid release into the bloodstream following cardiac damage makes it a sensitive indicator for early detection of heart conditions such as ischemia and infarction. The protein's presence in the blood can be used to assess the extent of myocardial damage and monitor the effectiveness of treatments in cattle.
