Target Information
Bovine Alpha-1-Acid Glycoprotein (ORM1) is an acute phase protein primarily synthesized by the liver and peripheral tissues in response to inflammation. It functions as a transport protein in the bloodstream, binding various ligands within its beta-barrel domain. ORM1 has anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, helping to regulate immune responses during inflammation. In bovine systems, ORM1 is involved in protecting sperm from phagocytosis by neutrophils in the oviduct. Its concentration increases significantly during systemic inflammation, making it a useful marker for inflammatory conditions. Additionally, ORM1 can bind and transport basic and neutral lipophilic drugs, influencing their distribution and availability.
