Target Information
Immunoglobulin M (IgM) is the largest among the various antibody isotypes produced by vertebrates. It has the ability to bind to the complement component C1 and activate the classical pathway, which results in the opsonization of antigens and cytolysis. Rabbit sera typically contain low levels of IgM, posing a significant challenge for its isolation. However, in rabbits infected with live trypanosomes, IgM levels can reach up to 10 mg/mL. Rabbit IgM is a multivalent antibody capable of binding multiple antigenic molecules simultaneously.
