Target Information

Rat α-Synuclein is a member of the synuclein family, abundantly expressed in the brain. It plays key roles in synaptic activity, including regulation of synaptic vesicle trafficking and neurotransmitter release. As a monomer, it enhances vesicle priming and fusion, crucial for synaptic function. In its multimeric state, α-Synuclein acts as a molecular chaperone, assisting in the folding of SNARE proteins at the presynaptic membrane. It is also involved in dopamine neurotransmission by interacting with the dopamine transporter (DAT1). Abnormal aggregation of α-Synuclein is associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia.
