Target Information
Porcine C-reactive protein (CRP) is a member of the pentraxin family of acute phase proteins, characterized by its pentameric structure and calcium-dependent binding to ligands such as phosphocholine. It is synthesized primarily in the liver and released into the bloodstream in response to inflammation or infection, making it a valuable biomarker for assessing inflammatory conditions and tissue damage in pigs. Porcine CRP exhibits similar functions to its human counterpart, including promoting agglutination, phagocytosis, and complement fixation, which are essential for host defense.
