Rat EIF2D is a cytoplasmic translation regulatory protein with conserved substrate-binding domains that maintain stable protein conformation under physiological conditions. It exists in nearly all dividing somatic cell populations and interacts with ribosomal complexes to support intracellular protein synthesis. Its multi-domain translational regulatory architecture and ubiquitous cellular distribution distinguish it from secreted soluble cytokines, transmembrane surface receptors and chromatin-interacting nuclear transcription factors with simplified single-domain assemblies that exhibit tissue-limited expression across specialized cell subsets.
