Target Information
Mouse occludin/ELL domain containing protein 1 (OCEL1) is a transmembrane protein encoded by the Ocel1 gene in Mus musculus, mapped to chromosome 11. It belongs to the OCEL protein family, featuring conserved N-terminal occludin-like domains, a central ELL domain, two transmembrane segments and a short C-terminal cytoplasmic tail. It localizes to cell membrane and tight junctions, with tissue-specific expression in mouse intestinal epithelium, renal tubules and airway epithelia, with minimal levels in non-epithelial tissues. The protein mediates junctional integrity and membrane anchoring, with conserved motifs for intermolecular interaction and structural stability. Mouse OCEL1 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct tissue distribution differentiating it from other tight junction-associated proteins.
