Target Information
Mouse Retinol Binding Protein 2 (RBP2), also known as Cellular Retinol Binding Protein 2 (CRBP2), is a member of the fatty acid-binding protein family. It is primarily expressed in the enterocytes of the small intestine, where it facilitates the uptake and metabolism of dietary vitamin A (retinol) and its metabolites. RBP2 binds retinol and retinaldehyde with high affinity, channeling these molecules into metabolic pathways for retinyl ester formation and packaging into chylomicrons. Additionally, RBP2 can bind monoacylglycerols (MAGs), including the endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG), suggesting a role in lipid signaling. Deficiency in RBP2 is associated with increased susceptibility to obesity and metabolic disorders.
