Target Information

Bovine hemoglobin alpha 1 is a 15 kDa globular protein whose eight helices cradle a central heme, reversibly binding oxygen via proximal His-F8 and distal His-E7 coordination. A solvent-exposed 12-aa "KVE" loop (aa 34-45) between helices C and E folds into a β-turn unique among bovine globin chains, presenting a conformational epitope preserved after oxygenation and fixation. Affinity-purified antibodies targeting this loop trace native HBA1 in erythrocyte cytosol, bone-marrow reticulocytes, and pulmonary capillaries, delivering crisp cytoplasmic staining and single-band clarity on immunoblots with no cross-reaction to hemoglobin beta or fetal globins.
