Mouse Lymphocyte Antigen 96 (LY96), also known as MD-2, is a soluble glycoprotein that partners with Toll-like receptor 4 to form the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) receptor complex. It enables the innate immune system to detect bacterial endotoxin by stabilizing TLR4 and facilitating downstream signaling that drives inflammatory cytokine production. LY96 is expressed in macrophages, dendritic cells, and endothelial cells, serving as a key sensor of Gram-negative bacteria. As a critical component of LPS recognition, LY96 is an important target for studying innate immunity and inflammatory responses.
