Target Information
Mouse keratocan (KERA) is a secreted leucine-rich repeat proteoglycan of the small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) family, a key structural component of corneal extracellular matrix (ECM). It features conserved tandem leucine-rich repeat domains, N- and C-terminal cysteine-rich regions, and a keratan sulfate glycosylation site critical for ECM assembly and corneal transparency. It localizes predominantly to the stroma of mouse cornea, with negligible expression in non-ocular tissues. The protein mediates collagen fibril organization and ECM structural integrity, with conserved motifs for protein-protein interaction. Mouse KERA shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct tissue specificity differentiating it from other SLRPs.
