Target Information

Chicken calsequestrin is a calcium-binding protein predominantly found in the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) of skeletal and cardiac muscles. It serves as a major Ca2+-buffering protein, maintaining the SR with a suitable amount of Ca2+ at each moment. Calsequestrin plays multiple roles in muscle function, including regulating Ca2+ release from the SR to the cytosol, acting as a structural regulator for the proper formation of terminal cisternae, and modulating extracellular Ca2+ entries.
