Target Information
Mouse microfibrillar associated protein 2 (MFAP2) is a secreted glycoprotein encoded by the Mfap2 gene in Mus musculus, mapped to chromosome 16. It belongs to the microfibrillar associated protein family, featuring conserved tandem repeat motifs, N-terminal signal peptide and C-terminal globular domain critical for extracellular matrix integration. It localizes to extracellular matrix and elastic fiber microfibrils, with tissue-specific expression in mouse lung, skin and vascular walls, with low levels in visceral organs. The protein mediates microfibril assembly and structural integrity, with conserved motifs for protein cross-linking. Mouse MFAP2 shares core functional domains with mammalian orthologs, and has distinct binding affinity differentiating it from MFAP1 and MFAP4.
