Target Information
Mouse aminoadipate semialdehyde synthase (AASS) is a bifunctional cytosolic enzyme with two conserved catalytic domains, a core component of lysine catabolism pathways. It features an N-terminal lysine-ketoglutarate reductase domain and a C-terminal saccharopine dehydrogenase domain, both critical for sequential catalytic reactions. It localizes predominantly to the cytoplasm of mouse hepatocytes and renal cells, with negligible expression in skeletal muscle and nervous tissues. The protein mediates the initial two steps of lysine degradation via domain-specific substrate binding, with conserved structural motifs differentiating it from single-domain metabolic enzymes.
