Target Information

Nitenpyram is a neonicotinoid insecticide used in agriculture to control sucking pests and in veterinary medicine as an oral ectoparasiticide to quickly eliminate fleas on companion animals and livestock. Its relevance to animal-derived food safety stems from both direct veterinary application and indirect dietary carryover through treated feed crops. Because it is highly water-soluble, it distributes rapidly through the animal's body and can leave chemical residues in meat, milk, and eggs if proper withdrawal times are neglected. To protect consumers from potential neurotoxic effects associated with chronic neonicotinoid exposure, strict Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) are maintained for nitenpyram in animal commodities.
