Target Information
Maduramicin is a potent monovalent polyether ionophore antibiotic used as a coccidiostat in the poultry industry. It is primarily administered via feed to prevent coccidiosis, a parasitic disease caused by Eimeria species in broiler chickens. Due to its high toxicity profile compared to other ionophores, even slight overdosage can be fatal to certain livestock, and its residues in edible tissues like muscle, liver, and fat are strictly monitored. Regulatory bodies have established Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) because excessive human consumption of these residues can lead to adverse effects. Furthermore, it is generally prohibited for use in laying hens to prevent contamination of eggs intended for human consumption.
