Target Information
Bovine Viral Diarrhoea Virus (BVDV) is an enveloped, single-stranded RNA virus belonging to the genus Pestivirus within the family Flaviviridae. It is a major veterinary pathogen causing gastrointestinal, respiratory, and reproductive diseases in cattle worldwide, often leading to mucosal disease and severe economic losses. The virus is characterized by its ability to establish lifelong persistent infections (PI) in fetuses exposed in utero before the development of immunocompetence, making the detection of BVDV structural proteins (like E2) and non-structural proteins (like NS3/p80) crucial for herd biosecurity and diagnostic screening.
