Target Information
Phoxim is an organophosphate insecticide and acaricide used both in agriculture to control soil and crop pests and in veterinary medicine as a topical treatment (such as dips or sprays) to eliminate ectoparasites like mange mites, lice, and ticks on livestock. Its relevance to animal-derived food safety is high due to this dual exposure pathway. If withdrawal periods are not carefully followed after veterinary application, or if livestock consume feed crops contaminated with phoxim residues, the chemical can carry over into meat, fat, liver, milk, and eggs. As an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, phoxim presents neurotoxic hazards to humans. Consequently, regulatory bodies globally enforce strict Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for phoxim in animal-derived products to prevent toxic residues from entering the food supply.
