Target Information

Gastrokine-1 exhibits mitogenic activity and is likely involved in preserving the integrity of the gastric mucosal epithelium. As a secretory protein, GKN1 is abundantly expressed in normal gastric mucosa, primarily serving to protect its integrity. In mice, GKN1 functions by safeguarding the gastric mucosa and inhibiting gastric cancer development. Its protective roles are executed through various mechanisms, such as modulating inflammatory responses, enhancing antioxidant defenses, and regulating both the cell cycle and apoptosis pathways. In mouse models, the overexpression of GKN1 has been shown to suppress gastric cancer cell growth and induce cellular senescence by activating the p16/Rb and p21Waf1/Cip1 pathways.
