Target Information

Cofilin-1 interacts with F-actin, demonstrating a pH-dependent ability to depolymerize F-actin. Alongside the subcortical maternal complex (SCMC), it is crucial for facilitating the zygote's progression beyond early embryonic cell divisions by modulating actin dynamics. This protein is necessary for the centralization of the mitotic spindle and the symmetric division of zygotes. Additionally, Cofilin-1 has been identified as a significant gene impacting anxiety behavior in mice. Gene mapping studies have located Cofilin-1 within quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with anxiety. Further research revealed that selectively knocking out Cofilin-1 in the forebrain of mice can markedly decrease anxiety behavior, highlighting its vital role in regulating emotional behavior.
