Target Information
The constitutive androstane receptor (CAR), also referred to as nuclear receptor subfamily 1, group I, member 3, is part of the nuclear receptor superfamily. Alongside the pregnane X receptor (PXR), CAR acts as a sensor for endobiotic and xenobiotic substances. In mice, it is encoded by the Nr1i3 gene. NR1I3 maintains energy homeostasis and lipid metabolism in mice by regulating gene expression. Activation of NR1I3 can significantly reduce serum triglyceride levels and improve fatty liver by inhibiting hepatic lipogenesis and promoting β-oxidation.
