Target Information
Bone morphogenetic protein 7 (BMP7) is a growth factor belonging to the TGF-beta superfamily, playing a critical role in various biological processes such as embryogenesis, hematopoiesis, neurogenesis, and skeletal morphogenesis. It activates the canonical BMP signaling pathway by interacting with type I receptor ACVR1 and type II receptor ACVR2A. When these three components form a complex at the cell surface, ACVR2A phosphorylates and activates ACVR1. BMP7 is essential for inducing renal mesenchymal cells to differentiate into renal tubular epithelial cells. In mice lacking BMP7, this differentiation process is impaired, leading to severe renal developmental defects in newborns, including tubular loss and renal insufficiency.
