Target Information
Acidic mammalian chitinase (AMCase) is an enzyme that degrades chitin and chitotriose, potentially playing a role in defending against nematodes, fungi, and other pathogens. It is involved in the T-helper cell type 2 (Th2) immune response and contributes to the body's response to IL-13, as well as inflammation triggered by IL-13. AMCase also stimulates the production of chemokines by pulmonary epithelial cells. In the mouse gastrointestinal tract, AMCase exhibits significant digestive enzyme activity, capable of breaking down chitosan and its derivatives. Research indicates that AMCase is highly expressed in mouse gastric tissue, specifically produced in the chief cells that synthesize pepsinogen C. It shows optimal activity in the acidic gastric environment of pH 2.0 and remains resistant to the proteolytic activities of pepsinogen C, trypsin, and papain.
