Target Information

Mapenterol is a highly potent beta2-adrenergic receptor agonist. Similar to other drugs in its class, it has been illicitly used as a "lean meat powder" (growth promoter) in the livestock industry to increase the production of lean meat and decrease body fat in food-producing animals. Mapenterol residues can linger and concentrate in animal tissues and offal (particularly the liver and kidneys). Ingestion of food products contaminated with mapenterol poses substantial risks to human health, threatening to cause severe adverse acute reactions such as muscle tremors, tachycardia, palpitations, severe headaches, and potentially dangerous cardiovascular events. Consequently, its use in livestock and food production is strictly forbidden worldwide.
