Target Information

Desmin is a muscle-specific, type III intermediate filament protein playing a vital role in maintaining the structural integrity and function of skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, and smooth muscle. It acts as an architectural component within the sarcomere, the contractile unit responsible for muscle contraction. Desmin is encoded by the DES gene in chickens. Desmin is the major subunit of muscle 100A filaments and can form non-stoichiometric complexes with actin.
