Target Information

Chicken ghrelin (GHRL) is a 26-amino acid peptide hormone that was first isolated from chicken proventriculus. It is predominantly produced by enteroendocrine cells in the gastrointestinal tract, particularly the stomach. It is aptly termed the "hunger hormone" due to its appetite-stimulating effects. In birds, ghrelin receptors of GI tract mediate stimulatory effects of ghrelin on gut motility. It was reported to inhibit food intake in chickens.
