Target Information
Cholecystokinin (CCK), encoded by the CCK gene in dogs, is an endogenous peptide hormone responsible for regulating gallbladder motility. CCK is synthesized and secreted by enteroendocrine cells in the duodenum. Its presence triggers the release of digestive enzymes from the pancreas and bile from the gallbladder. CCK also acts as a hunger suppressant. Specifically, CCK stimulates both gallbladder contraction and relaxation of the sphincter of Oddi. These actions collectively promote bile flow via the common bile duct into the duodenum.
