Target Information

The E1 glycoprotein is a critical class II viral fusion protein located on the WEEV envelope. It mediates low-pH-dependent membrane fusion between the viral envelope and the host endosome following receptor-mediated endocytosis. Structurally, E1 forms a heterodimer with E2; upon acidification, it reorganizes into a stable homotrimer to insert its fusion peptide into the host membrane. As a primary target for neutralizing antibodies, E1 is essential for viral entry and a key focus for vaccine and therapeutic development.
