Target Information
Giardia lamblia is a flagellated, binucleated protozoan parasite that colonizes and reproduces in the lumen of the small intestine, causing the diarrheal disease giardiasis across mammalian hosts. The organism transitions between two morphologically distinct stages: an environmental resistant cyst responsible for transmission, and a motile trophozoite. Key research and diagnostic targets include the ventral sucking disk used for epithelial attachment, cyst wall proteins (CWPs), and variant-specific surface proteins (VSPs) critical for immune evasion.
