Target Information
In mice, Caspase-8 (Casp8) is a critical enzyme involved in both apoptosis and necroptosis. Casp8 is a cysteinyl aspartate-specific protease that plays a central role in the extrinsic apoptosis pathway by forming the death-inducing signaling complex (DISC) with FADD. It is essential for the activation of downstream effector caspases, such as caspase-3 and caspase-7, which execute apoptosis. Casp8 also has a non-apoptotic role in inhibiting necroptosis by cleaving RIPK1 and RIPK3, preventing the formation of the necrosome complex. This function is crucial for tissue homeostasis and preventing inflammatory diseases.
